The District of Logan Lake has been put on evacuation alert while Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park has been evacuated because of the Tremont Creek wildfire.
The alert for Logan Lake came down at about 6:30 p.m., affecting all properties in the community of about 2,000 people.
The evacuation order from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District covers 43 properties between 4405 and 6525 Tunkwa Lake Road. Many of those properties were on evacuation order earlier this month because of the Durand Lake fire which is now under control.
A new evacuation alert tonight from the TNRD also covers 11 other properties between 7185 and 7923 Tunkwa Lake Road as well as 8240 to 8700 Old Meadow Lake Road.
The Tremont Creek fire is now mapped at 19,990 hectares though its likely larger after extreme fire activity today.
In an update at 9 p.m., the BC Wildfire Service says there was “extremely vigorous” fire activity this afternoon, and the blaze moved northeast to the western edge of Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park, at part of Guichon Creek Forest Service Road.
The wildfire service says the blaze is 18 kilometres northwest of Logan Lake and has been moving northeast today, away from the community.
