The City of Kamloops has rescinded the evacuation alerts it has had in place for the western edge of town.
The alert was brought in on Sunday night for 734 properties in Pineview Valley, Iron Mask and the Versatile Drive Industrial Park, because of the risk posed by the Tremont Creek wildfire.
The city says, as of late Tuesday morning, that fire no longer is a risk to those neighbourhoods.
“The City of Kamloops Emergency Operations Centre will continue to monitor the situation and should conditions change, an evacuation alert or evacuation order could be reinstated or issued as the EOC deems necessary, based on the advice and recommendations of BC Wildfire Service,” an update says.
Gusting winds from the southwest pushed the Tremont Creek fire towards Cherry Creek over the weekend, particularly on Sunday, but damper, cooler weather and higher humidity in the past 24 hours has significantly reduced fire activity.
Cherry Creek, Logan Lake, Tunkwa Lake, Paska Lake and Face Lake remain evacuated by that fire. The blaze pushed within 100 feet of some homes in Logan Lake on the weekend, but all structures were saved and officials say the fire has “moved on” from the area.
The Tremont Creek blaze, which started July 12, has now burned just under 64,000 hectares of land. A cause is only listed as being “under investigation.”
The city adds that if the situation changes for Kamloops residents, those who have downloaded the Voyent Alert smartphone app will receive a notification.
